Milnthorpe occurs as little market town in Westmorland (now Cumbria).
Straddling a A6 road, the village contains many old hostel & hosts the market in The Square every Friday.
A 19th century church of St Thomas overlooks A Green & The Square - before its construction Milnthorpe was in the parish of Heversham.

A Dallam Tower estate stands near to the River Bela just south west of Milnthorpe, whilst St Anthony's Tower may be seen on the top of St Anthony's Hill to the north east of the village centre, over-looking the village and the housing estate of Owlet Ash Fields in nearby Ackenthwaite.
